Hi, I'm Amila Hewagama, a software developer from the beautiful shores of Sri Lanka. Traveling across the island inspires my photography. Although my profession is in software, capturing landscapes is my true passion. Over the past decade, this hobby has transformed me. I excel at turning ordinary scenes into extraordinary art. When I click my camera, it's not just a photo – it's a snapshot of my feelings about the world.
The Spark: My Journey into Landscape Photography
My journey into landscape photography started almost by accident on a camping trip to Horton Plains National Park back in 2006. I was there with friends and just happened to have a basic 2-megapixel digital camera with me. Over the three days, I took a bunch of random shots of the stunning landscapes around us—just for fun. Looking back at those photos years later, I was blown away by how beautiful they turned out. That was the spark that got me curious about photography. I started digging into the techniques, the art of composition, and everything else that goes into capturing nature’s beauty. And that’s how my passion for landscape photography took off—all thanks to that spontaneous trip and those first few snapshots.
Crafting the Art, Sharing the Beauty
I've crafted my own approach to capturing the beauty of Sri Lanka through landscape photography. The island's allure has led me to spend considerable time perfecting my unique way of preserving its charm. I particularly enjoy photographing waterfalls, which are abundant in the lush forests and valleys of Sri Lanka, resembling precious jewels.
In 2019, driven to share this beauty more widely, I created landscapesphotographymagazine.com. The Landscape Photography Magazine serves as a dedicated platform to elevate the recognition and popularity of Sri Lankan landscape photography, showcasing how amazing these landscapes truly are.
